"Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."
We are so blessed to be on the brink of Holy Week, with Palm Sunday just ahead and two weekday services next week to remember the Passion of our Lord together as his body.
PALM SUNDAY - April 9, 11am
Palm Sunday is the final Sunday in Lent before Holy Week. Please arrive a little early as we will have a special procession to commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This is a truly celebratory time in anticipation of Jesus' enthronement. And through the course of this worship service we become starkly aware that the same voices shouting the blessings of "Hosanna" will demand unthinkable violence - "Crucify him!"
MAUNDY THURSDAY - April 13, 6:30pm (Sanctuary)
This is a symbolic participation in the servanthood of Christ, who humbly washed the feet of his disciples in John 13. We will humble ourselves and wash each other's feet as Christ instructed, followed by Holy Communion. The service will end in a stripping of the altar and the congregation will leave in silence. Nursery is provided.
GOOD FRIDAY - April 14, 6:30pm (Sanctuary)
We enter in silence because, in one sense, this is a funeral service for a life lost in ultimate tragedy and because of injustice - a somber, but meaningful remembrance of the agony and death of Christ for our sin.
EASTER VIGIL - Saturday - April 15
A meaningful liturgy will be emailed to you before Saturday. It will be appropriate for individuals, families or groups of friends who may wish to get together and prayerfully hold vigil in anticipation of Christ's resurrection.
Send questions about Holy Week to Hallie - firstname.lastname@example.org
THERE WILL BE NO FORMAL MEN'S or WOMEN'S GATHERINGS IN APRIL DUE TO THE HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE. We encourage you to reach out to one another (and especially someone new!) this month for a meal, coffee, prayer or some family fun at the park!
