Small groups are an extension of Table fellowship at Village Church.
As we welcome more and more people to the Table on Sunday mornings, we are setting smaller tables where relationships and connection can happen throughout the week and in greater depth. Our small groups use a trimester system, meeting for 8-10 week periods three times per year.
Spring 2025 Small Groups
Spring groups will begin after Easter, the week of April 27th and end by the week of June 16th.
Specific group meeting details and group location will be displayed once you register for a group
Young Adult Small Groups
This trimester, the young adults will be doing Evening Prayer together from the Book of Common Prayer, and for the Scripture portion we will read the upcoming Sunday’s gospel using Lectio Divina. There is no prep necessary except to show up. Everything needed for Evening Prayer will be provided. Contact Smyth Taylor if you have questions.
20s Young Adult Small Group–Wednesday evenings 6:30–8:00pm, location TBD
30s Young Adult Small Group–Tuesday evenings 6:30–8:00pm @ Smyth Taylors house
Staying Curious
Join Greg and Angie Groppe for this small group that will explore the teachings of Dr. Michael Heiser around the supernatural reality of the unseen realm in Scripture. Attendees can expect to pursue questions rather than answers as we delve into subject matter that might be very unfamiliar to the average 'church goer'. Each small group time 1.5 hours. We will be watching a four part series over 8 weeks with each video segment being ~45 minutes in length. The remainder of the time will be for discussion. Anglican Bishop and New Testament scholar N.T. Wright said of Dr. Heiser’s work: "Clearly Michael has put his finger on something which is very much there in scripture but which the traditional presentations have largely ignored."
Dr. Heiser's Book Supernatural recommended but not necessary. Supernatural Study Guide highly recommended.
Led by: Greg and Angie Groppe
When/Where: Wednesdays 6:30–8:00pm @ Village Church Fellowship Hall.
The Halflings
In the tradition of The Inklings, this is a fairly unstructured weekly meeting of diverse members at a pub. Last time, Wade walked us through Kierkegaard's radical challenge to take God literally when he invited us to live as the lily of the field. This time, we're exploring how that might work in daily life. How do we know it's the voice of God? How might we live joyfully and be present to ourselves? We will cover everything from Hearing God to The Five Minute Journal in our mutual quest.
Led by: It's really more of a group journey but if we are picking a Gandalf this time it's Betty Jeanne Cupcheck
When/Where: Thursdays 6:00pm in the backroom of Greenville Beer Exchange ( 7 S Laurens St Suite A, Downtown)
Dramatic Readings
Come hear the New Testament brought to life as it would have been for its original audience in the first churches: through a dramatic reading, a whole book at a time! Each week, one person will prepare and read an entire short- or medium-length New Testament book, making choices about facial expression, intonation, and gesture to interpret the words. You're welcome to volunteer as a reader—but no one will pressure you to.
Led by: Brendan and Catherine Jones Payne
When/Where: Mondays 6:30–8:00pm @ the home of Brendan and Catherine Jones Payne (Travelers Rest)
Table Talk @ The Andersons
Join us for weekly devotional readings from ancient & contemporary spiritual guides (like St John of the Cross, St Julian of Norwich, C.S. Lewis), a shared meal, and conversation. No lengthy books or homework—just warm community as we explore contemplative wisdom together. All are welcome at the table. Dinner and childcare provided!
Led by: Dan and Erin Anderson
When/Where: Tuesdays 6:00-8:00 @ The Anderson home (Greer)
Anglicans 101

For those seeking Confirmation, an important sixth meeting will be added.
